When walking through the city, I stop every now and then,...

Here goes.

When walking through the city, I stop every now and then, and look. Occasionally I create a scene (I cause a scene) and my looking becomes watching. Others do the same but many just keep going, animating the space. Each leaves apparently insignificant traces, the accumulation of which forms history. Whilst watching I photograph the people who pass. Not all of them - I choose. I usually stay around an hour, a short time in terms of history, but I need the light to be fairly constant.

Then I go on.

The camera captures moments, places in time. I make a picture from the photographs I have taken, trying to expand each moment, to make it just a little longer. To reveal a bigger place. Within this process there is scope for chance, error, whim, reaction and resistance.

Must I go on?
